In this Europeana café (in association with the Digicher project) we will explore data, including digitised heritage, belonging to minority, indigenous and other communities.
Invited speakers will introduce case studies from various perspectives involving communities’ data, its preservation, presentation and handling by institutions.
Together we will reflect on questions like:
How can open data support the rights of minority communities?
Are there situations in which openness or the FAIR principles might bring prejudice to minority communities?
How can institutions work with communities for mutual benefit?
What are possible solutions to balance openness with ethical access and use of data?
The cafe will include an open discussion and Q&A with attendees.
Confirmed speakers are (with more to come)
Jonna Häkkilä (Nuohtti, ULapland)
Eeva-Kristiina Nylander (Sámi Collection, MEK)
Samuel (Sámmol) Valkeapää (Sámi duodji, design and digitalisation, Sámi University of Applied Sciences)
